The final Leil Shishi of the academic year was nothing short of remarkable. With a full house, an incredible sense of energy, and a packed programme, the evening captured everything we hope to achieve through this initiative: meaningful Torah learning, practical halachic engagement, and genuine ruach.
We were privileged to once again welcome Dayan Yossi Moore, whose previous visit had made a strong impact. This time was no different. With warmth, clarity, and humour, Dayan Moore opened the evening with a brief introductory thought, designed to set the stage and spark curiosity. What followed was an immersive and interactive session exploring 20 practical halachic questions for the summer - relevant, real-world sheilos that our boys might well encounter during the holidays. Could one make a minyan on an aeroplane? Should Tefillas Haderech be recited when jet-skiing in open water? Does a disposable BBQ require tevilla if it’s only being used once? These weren’t abstract or theoretical discussions - they were live questions, rooted in Halacha, and intended to sharpen the boys’ thinking and deepen their awareness of Torah in every aspect of life. Each table received a set of printed cards with the questions, and were guided by a member of the school’s Rabbanim. With boys acting as Dayanim, discussions flowed, sources were debated, and opinions shared. The room buzzed with enthusiasm, as the boys took the opportunity to apply their learning to practical scenarios, in a collaborative and respectful setting. After time for discussion, the groups reassembled and Dayan Moore addressed many of the sheilos, offering guidance, halachic insight, and, at times, psak, all while encouraging continued questioning and exploration. What truly elevated the evening, though, was the atmosphere. The sense of achdus, the involvement of every student, the singing that closed the evening - it all reflected the growth and spirit that have come to define Leil Shishi at Yavneh. It was a fitting conclusion to a year of outstanding Thursday night programmes. A huge yasher koach is due to all the staff and Rabbanim who helped make these events possible week after week - setting up, preparing, guiding and supporting. The impact is immeasurable. We look forward IY”H to building on this momentum in the year ahead, and to many more evenings of Torah, discussion, and inspiration.
