Ahead of Yom Yerushalayim, this week’s Leil Shishi took a dramatic turn, blending passionate discussion with deep Torah learning.
Rav Elad Eshel began by speaking emotionally about the gift of Yerushalayim and the privilege our generation has to walk on Har Habayis, the holiest place on earth. But just as his words were gaining momentum, he was abruptly interrupted by Rav Shmuel Shwartz, who strongly opposed the idea. “We must not go up,” he argued. “The kedusha is too great, and the halachic dangers are real!” Tensions rose - until Rabbi Wulwick stepped in with a smile, revealing that the entire disagreement had been staged to introduce the evening’s learning. We divided into five groups and learned through the Mareh Mekomos, exploring the halachic foundations of this important debate. What emerged was a clearer understanding of the complexity and depth behind the differing views. Boys from each table then presented their findings, clearly and confidently sharing the various halachic positions. We ended the evening by reaffirming our shared reverence for the Makom HaMikdash, and davening together for the day we will all be able to ascend it in purity – במהרה בימנו. The night closed with a well-earned serving of pizza and chips.
