Leil Shishi: Mission to the Mikdash

Last night’s Leil Shishi was a powerful blend of inspiration and immersive learning, as Yavneh Boys gathered for an unforgettable evening focused on Eretz Yisrael and the Beis Hamikdash.
Rav Sholom Schwalbe opened the programme by setting the tone with a stirring message. He explained that before we can truly mourn the loss of the Beis Hamikdash, we must first appreciate what it meant to us. The Beis Hamikdash wasn’t merely a building - it was the heart of the Jewish people, the ultimate place of simcha, of closeness to Hashem, of national unity and holiness. Without a sense of what was lost, our mourning cannot be real.
With that perspective in mind, the boys then broke into groups and entered a high-energy, hands-on learning experience, described by many as a Torah-themed “Mission Room.” Through a range of interactive stations, the boys explored different aspects of Eretz Yisrael and the Beis Hamikdash in creative and challenging ways.
Each group carried out these challenges:

• The Israel Timeline Puzzle - A historical challenge where boys pieced together key events in the history of Eretz Yisrael. When completed correctly, the timeline revealed a hidden pasuk from Chumash.
• Codebreaker Challenge – Teams had to crack a series a cipher, linked to Jewish life in Eretz Yisrael.
• Mitzvos Hateluyos Ba’Aretz Match-Up – An engaging game matching mitzvos specific to Eretz Yisrael with their sources and explanations.
• Tanach Map Quest – Using clues and pesukim, boys located various significant cities and places in Tanach, plotting them on a map of Eretz Yisrael.

The atmosphere was electric. Boys collaborated, debated, and celebrated each breakthrough with genuine enthusiasm. The evening was not only about learning - it was about feeling connected to the Land of Israel and to the era of the Beis Hamikdash.
A huge well done to Year 8, who won the overall challenge with outstanding teamwork and sharp thinking!

As we approach the Three Weeks, the night reminded us that true mourning for the Churban begins with understanding what we’ve lost - and kindles a deeper yearning to see it rebuilt, bimheira veyameinu.
