We enjoyed a musical Hallel led by Rav Elad Eshel, followed by an insight of Chanukah focusing on shining a light during the dark times.
Our guest Chanukah speaker this morning was Rabbi Yisroel Meir Shaftesley, Director of the Kollel L'Dayonus. He posed and unpacked a simple [and yet complex] question: Is the Chanukah Mitzva the act of 'lighting', or to have candles 'burning'? And what difference does this make to our lives?
Many thanks to a parent for kindly sponsoring this morning's treats and refreshments. Rabbi Daniel Walker addressed the Yavneh Boys this morning, speaking of the various festivals that are Jews celebrated, and especially the uniqueness and light brought about through Chanukah.
Yavneh boys celebrated 1st night Chanukah together with joy and doughnuts. Deputy Head Boy, Eli Rose, lit the first night candle followed by singing, dancing and Maariv together.
#HappyChanukah Tonight we welcomed 7 Rabbis and a solicitor from Kollel L’dayonus. Ari Kornbluth, a commercial litigation solicitor, along with Rabbi Shua Whipman, a member of the Kollel, began by presenting us with a scenario in which someone had sent their friend an email containing a malicious file. Upon opening the attachment, the file corrupted his friend’s files causing significant damage.
The boys then broke into groups, each with a Rav from Yavneh and a member of the Kollel, where they attempted to try to work out the correct Halacha using various other scenarios in Shulchan Aruch. Each group then presented their findings. Rabbi Cohen made a presentation to Rabbi Yisroel Meir Shaftesley and thanked him for organising the event. This Leil Shishi program was the finale of a project run during the week on Tuesday evenings under the bracket of experiential learning. |
