Toras Yavneh special guest this week was Mr. Stephen Elias, Chair of Governors, King David High School
This week's Leil Shishi began with Maariv led by Eli Bondt. This was followed by a short introduction from Rabbi Yoel Gold sharing a story where Brochos - and Amen - played a powerful role. Students were split into five learning groups lead by the Rabbonim discussing different aspects of and the importance of Brochos. The boys were highly engaged throughout and this was followed by the boys loudly and proudly making Brochos on the food with people responding Amen.
Just ahead of Remembrance Day, a group of Year 9 students had an insightful visit to the Imperial War Museum, North. This essential trip allowed the boys to deepen their understanding of historical conflicts and the powerful meaning of remembrance. Exploring the exhibits offered a unique perspective on the study of change over time, seeing how world events have shaped our present. The students were wonderful ambassadors for our school, conducting themselves with impeccable behaviour throughout the day. Their respectful engagement with the topics was truly commendable. We hope this experience will stay with them as they observe Remembrance Day.
Many thanks to Mrs. Heaton for coordinating this event for the History Dept and Yavneh Boys Rabbi Daniel Thwaites (from Yeshiva Torah v'Avodah (Baka, Jerusalem) addressed the boys this morning after Shacahrit and reminded the boys of the key message of the importance of Mitzvot between Man and Hashem and Man and Man. He also gave masterclasses with Year 7 and year 9 where he spoke of his experiences in Israel and on shlichut in Canada.
T he evening began with a talk by Anthony Geller (Managing Director at Prima
Insurance and founder of Heichal HaBesht Shul), who spoke about bringing Hashem and spirituality into the workplace. He shared stories of Prima’s success and blessings after introducing daily Minyanim, learning sessions, and a goal for all staff to earn Semicha in Hilchos Shabbos. Work now ends at Chatzos every Friday for a Shiur. The second half featured a carousel learning session on practical Choshen Mishpat scenarios, organized and led by Rabbi Shaftesley and a team of Rabbonim from Kollel L’Dayonus. The boys were highly engaged, and the learning was at a strong level. We thank Rabbi Shaftesley and his team and look forward to welcoming the Kollel back soon
We were thrilled to welcome back Rabbi Yehuda Leib Lewis, who once again inspired us with his powerful words. He spoke about the seven weeks from Tisha B’Av to Rosh Hashana, known as the שבעה דנחמתא - a special time of change, reflection, and growth.
After his talk, the boys got stuck in learning the meaning of, and singing, some of the beautiful Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur songs used in Davening. Introduced by our Rabbanim, these songs helped everyone connect more deeply to the prayers and their messages. The event finished on a high note with hotdogs and bentching together - celebrating learning, music, and the special energy of being part of our Yavneh Boys community.
