On the last day of half-term we welcomed Dayan Danny Kada of the Sephardi and Portuguese Bet Din. After davening with the boys, he left a fascinating discussion about the concept of Mesorah, and what it means to be Sephardi in an Ashkenazi world.
We enjoyed a special Leil Shishi in honour of Rosh Chodesh Adar.
Each speaker had 60 seconds to deliver a Dvar Torah related to Adar, Purim or Simcha. The boys enthusiastically counted down before every speech and ensured that they didn’t go a second over. Following this, they did Chazara via an online quiz (Blooket). This was followed by pizza, chips and ice-cream. Well done to Leo Creek, Ben Addleman and Yehouda Moussa for winning the top three prizes. This week’s Leil Shishi was a berry fruitful one! Really un-peel-ievable!
Rabbi Wulwick (He’s one in a melon!) introduced the pear-fect event by demonstrating how much honour was given to the farmer in the times of the Mishkan and Beis Hamikdash. The Bikkurim procession was even fancier than our Hachnasas Sefer Torah. We then enjoyed separating Terumos and Maaser from our Israeli avocadoes and dates and learned how to check dates for infestation. It took us a while, but we managed to fig-ure it out. We then went outside where Rav Elad Eshel taught us about the Mitzva of Kilayim. (He’s quite the sage!) We planted various herbs – after making the appropriate Berachos on smelling them. We are very grape-ful to all the teachers and truly ap-peach-iate it. Thanks a bunch We enjoyed eating many different fruits following Shacharis this morning. remembering to say the Beracha on the grapes and pomegranates, and שהחיינו on the star fruit.
Over the recent winter break, the Year 8 class excitingly took part in a Davening incentive program organised by Rabbi Wulwick, whereby they received raffle tickets towards a grand raffle. Well done to Sammy and Jacob on winning the top 2 prizes |
